One of the most anticipated matchups in the Pacific Palisades Baseball Association this season took place last week in the Mustang Division when the Yankees handed the Red Sox their first defeat, 7-4, last Wednesday and followed that with a 5-4 triumph in Saturday’s rematch.
Alex Denham was 3-for-5 with four RBIs in the two games for the Yankees while Marty Kaplan hit three doubles and had 10 strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings pitched for the Red Sox (12-2).

The lead changed hands seven times Wednesday, but the Yankees went ahead for good in the top of the sixth on a single by Finn Johnson that scored Gus Neuwirth. Denham had two singles and three RBIs and pitcher Jack Bowden held the Red Sox hitless in two innings with five strikeouts.
On Saturday, Denham’s bases-loaded single in the final frame gave the Yankees a sweep of the series and moved them within half a game of the Red Sox in the American League. The Cubs split with the Phillies to stay atop the National League. The Cardinals and Tigers remained atop their leagues in the Bronco Division.
