A new athletic certificate was handed out at the Senior Awards Banquet last Friday in Mercer Hall—the Coach Larry Palmer Leadership Award—and it is only fitting that Palisades High football player Matt Fahn was the recipient. The award honors the former Pali High offensive line coach who died suddenly in the fall of 2018 at his Palisades home. Palmer was a member of the Dolphins’ coaching staff from 2012-17.
Fahn had 27 tackles in his eight games at defensive end in the fall. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma during his freshman year and courageously beat it after four months of treatment. He will attend Indiana University in the fall with teammates Johnny and Jack Babala.
“My sophomore year we wore ‘LP’ stickers on our helmets in memory of Coach Palmer and Coach Garcia told us all about what he meant to the program,” Fahn said. “So to win this award in his honor means a lot.”
