Anthony Marguleas with Amalfi Estates donated $5,000 to the Village Green on Wednesday, January 12—marking the ninth year of the tradition.
“The Village Green embodies the best of the Palisades,” Marguleas said to the Palisadian-Post. “The community teamed together to create an open space in the middle of town for people to relax, enjoy the flowers, the fountain, sit on the benches or the grass.”
In order for the Village Green—a small private park, located in the business district in the heart of Pacific Palisades—to remain functional, it relies on donations from businesses, community members and organizations. Marguleas, broker and owner of Amalfi Estates, has been donating since 2013.
“Many people may not know this; it is not a city-owned park, but rather the community raised funds to purchase and maintain it,” Marguleas said. “When I heard that they were having trouble raising the needed funds to keep it up almost 10 years ago, I knew it was something we wanted to support.”
The park is privately owned by the Palisades Village Green Committee and is dependent upon the financial support from the community and managed by a board of volunteer directors.
Village Green Committee President Marge Gold said donations go a long way to help preserve the Village Green.
“Anthony Marguleas’s generous $5,000 annual donation goes directly into our operating budget and allows us to see that our ongoing expenses are paid,” she said to the Post. “We are like any other piece of property and have property tax, DWP bill, a gardener, fountain maintenance, trash removal, tree trimming—the list goes on.”
Marguleas also wanted to ensure the park was not negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Especially during COVID, we have all come to appreciate the little things we had taken for granted, whether walking around outside or enjoying the fresh air and sunshine,” Marguleas said to the Post. “We are fortunate to be able to give back to help support the Village Green for the past nine years.”
Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the Village Green. Marguleas is “excited” about it also being the 10th year that Amalfi Estates and its associates will be donating to help support the longevity of the park.
With a team of 10 agents, Amalfi gave 10% of its commissions—totaling $510,000—to six charities including, Make a Wish, The People Concern, Homeboy Industries, American Cancer Society, Wags and Walks and Heal the Bay.
As for the annual donation, Marguleas said, “I’ll do it as long as I’m able.”
