Margaret H. Gunderson, who had lived in Pacific Palisades for more than 50 years, died on March 27. She was 89. Born in Los Angeles on April 22, 1920, Margaret attended Marlborough High School, as her mother did. Graduating from UC Berkeley with a degree in history, she chose not to follow her father Eugene Hawkins in the field of law, which had made him successful in the oil-leasing business in his native Texas. After a brief time at Hughes Aircraft, Margaret met and married Harley Gunderson after his completion of service as a doctor in the U.S. Navy during World War II. They settled in Pacific Palisades in 1958 and had one son, Harley III. Margaret was an accomplished tennis and bridge player, and her annual Christmas parties were always a hit. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harley; her son, Harley III (wife Diane) of the Palisades Highlands; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, including Harley IV. She was loved and will be very much missed from their lives. Private services will be held for the immediate family. Donations on Margaret’s behalf can be made to the American Cancer Society.
