
Maimana ‘Mimi” Abbass, a former 30-year resident of Pacific Palisades, passed away on February 3. She was 90, and had spent her last years with her daughter, Magany Abbass, in the Bay Area. The beloved wife of the late Dr. Majid Abbass (1971), Mimi enjoyed reading, cooking and entertaining her friends and family, as well as traveling the world. She is survived by sons Mazin Heiderson of East Lansing, Michigan, and Maan Abbass of Houston, Texas; daughters Magany Abbass-Thelen of Lafayette, Morouge Sevedra of Los Angeles, Methal Akins of Pacific Palisades, and Maysoon Sukkar of Arlington, Virginia; and six grandchildren: Layth Carlson, Yasmeen Catoline, Bassim Garrett, Natalie Prust, Ryan Majid Akins and Christine Heiderson. She was blessed with five beautiful great-grandchildren: Scheele and Taryn Prust, Kaden and Beck Carlson and Luca Khalil Catoline. Private services will be held at the Lafayette Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. Abbass Memorial Endowment Fund at Southern Illinois University, where Majid taught in the government department, and where he and Mimi lived for many years.
