The Maggie Gilbert Aquatic Center at Palisades High School will host a Welcome to Summer 2012 open house event on Saturday, April 14 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone in the community is invited to the free event, which will begin with a ‘bring a friend to swim’ day from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Water polo will be played from 9:30 to noon, with swim lessons with Westside Aquatics from noon to 1 p.m., H2O boot camp and scuba demos from noon to 2, introduction to water aerobics from noon to 1, a Splashball clinic from 1 to 2 and family swim from 2 to 3. Throughout the day, Westside Aquatics will offer Red Cross class signups, YMCA program signups and a bake sale to benefit the Palisades High aquatics program. ‘We want to show the community everything that the pool has to offer,’ said Nathalie Brouwer, who is the team parent rep for Westside Aquatics. Palisadian Adam Blakis serves as the director of Westside Aquatics as well as the head coach of PaliHi’s boys and girls water polo teams. Blakis, who has more than 20 years of coaching experience at UC Riverside, St. Monica’s High, Crespi High, Chabot Community College and Santa Monica College, opened Westside Aquatics in 2004.
