Long-time Huntington resident Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who has received nine Emmy Awards throughout a star-studded TV comedy career, is tipped by bookies to win her tenth for the HBO political satire “Veep” at the primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, Sept. 10.
Last week she announced that the next season of “Veep,” where her acid portrayal of Vice President Selina Meyer won plaudits from then real life Veep Joe Biden, will end the series and she will be focusing for a while on producing TV shows instead.
If Louis-Dreyfus wins—and she will have to snatch the Outstanding Leading Actress in a Comedy trophy from both Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda—pundits expect her to drop a few scathing remarks about the current situation in Washington, D.C.
Other Emmy contenders include “Big Little Lies,” which the British Daily Telegraph said was set in Monterey but felt more like life in Pacific Palisades, “Better Call Saul,” which was shot in New Mexico by Palisadian Arthur Albert, and Jeffrey Tambor in “Transparent”—a drama as much about a family home in the Palisades as it is about the transgender lead character.
Sir Anthony Hopkins, former honorary mayor of the Palisades, is nominated as outstanding lead actor for HBO’s “Westworld.”
