Eight days after finishing second by one stroke at the City Section golf championships, Palisades High’s Gavin Loughran had another close call, firing a 1-under par 71 at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena— one shot away from advancing to yesterday’s state finals in San Gabriel. The last Palisades boy to make the state finals was Ray Yang in 2016.
On the same Brookside course where Dolphins freshman Anna Song took third at SoCal Regionals and made the state finals in November, Loughran was in a group of 10 players tied for 12th. Daniel Ho of Cypress carded a 67 and won the individual title on the first playoff hole. Kourey Patterson(76), Jaden Vann (77), Alec Lam (79), Bill Enkhbold (79) and Campbell Viles (79) rounded out the scoring for Palisades.
Palisades qualified for regionals by winning the City team title and took eighth place out of 10 schools with a score of 382, beating Stockdale (405) and City runner-up Granada Hills (421).
