A former Palisadian movie director, Sandra Lindqvist, screened her film “Keep Em’ White” at the DTLA Film Festival in late October.
The short film, mostly shot in and around Pacific Palisades, tells the story of two Hispanic boys who take the bus from South Central to the Palisades, in search of a famous basketball player.
Starring “non-actor” Uriel Carreon, Lindqvist used untrained actors in hopes of getting “a more genuine insight into the lives of Hispanic actors and of their life in South Central.”
Jimmy Cervantes also made his film debut in the short, getting his first taste of the on-screen life.
“It was fun to see how I could be like another person and to show that message and to entertain people. If I act again, I’d like to do comedy,” Cervantes said in a press release for the film.
In writing, directing and producing her first short film, Lindqvist was inspired by her mother taking in a foster boy of minority background with a criminal past.
“Seeing those worlds collide as well as unite compelled her to share this story,” the press release said.
Lindqvist grew up in Sweden until leaving to study classical theatre in London and the Meisner acting technique in New York until finally moving to LA and Pacific Palisades.
