Mikal Sandoval’s Speakeasy evening unleashes musical memories of the post-Victorian era in America on Thursday, November 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Talking Stick, 1411 Lincoln Blvd. in Venice (near California Street). Sandoval, whose day job is a ranger at Will Rogers State Historic Park, became interested in the music of Will Rogers’ day. ‘I have since immersed myself in the music, dance, costume and manner of those days and now find myself presenting programming ranging from the post-Victorian period through the Edwardian/ragtime/early jazz era and Tin Pan Alley music in general,’ Sandoval says. This holiday season, she will also perform as Betty Rogers at the Will Rogers ranch house. Ragtime pianist Brad Kay will join Dutch Newman and the Musical Melodians for the November 13 festivities, which will also include dancing flappers, refreshments and a vintage boutique. For more information, contact Sandoval at 310-454-8212, ext.115.
