‘Where Does the Time Go?’
This is the time we toast, cheer, laugh and tell our stories of the past year. We pay homage and give thanks, we are ever so grateful … we share, and we care.
Thanksgiving is the start of “The Season” for giving. When November arrives, I can’t believe the end of the year is very, very near. How did the year go so fast? It was summer, we were sailing, the sun was beaming and our boat moved easily through the water.
Kids go back to school and next thing I know, ghosts, goblins and witches are coming to my door yelling, “trick-or-treat, can we have more!” The days are shorter, nights are longer; it gets colder and, yeah, I am getting older.
Holiday cards come out, invitations are received for parties and gatherings; before you know it … it’s Christmas Eve.
I love this time of year. People are happy and the mood is light. People look to the future and all looks bright.
We try to be respectful and mindful of everyone around. We are kind and generous; we make time for our families and friends, I don’t want this to end.
The New Year comes on and the old year is gone. It is back to “business-as-usual” every day, then suddenly the year has gone away!

Pacific Palisades
Palisades Garden Café
Dear Neighbors: For those who do not know me, my name is James Kwon, owner of the Palisades Garden Café. It was brought to my attention that there have been concerns posted on Nextdoor. I have read your comments and sympathize with the uncertainty about the unlawful behaviors and activities of some individuals surrounding our community.
These issues have been ongoing since the beginning of the year and I have tried some things to try to address the problems (i.e. hire security personnel). What I have realized now is that I cannot do this alone. I need help from you, the community, in resolving these issues.
With that being said, I want to put in some additional security measures starting at my store. Hopefully it is a step in the right direction. Below are some things I want to start implementing:
Security will be present on all school days.
Additional security will be present on Fridays.
I will be more proactive and all employees will be trained to be on high alert during after school hours.
Contact LAPD, City of LA officials and LAUSD for additional help.
Contact all directors at nearby private and public schools to come up with ideas and solutions.
Accept adult volunteers to monitor both inside and outside PGC on school days and additional help on Fridays. Volunteers will be rewarded with a drink of their choice.
I want to thank everyone once again for bringing these issues to my attention. I am grateful to be a part of the Palisades community and want to see it thrive. I will stand behind all of you in keeping Pacific Palisades a family friendly neighborhood.
This action plan isn’t an exhaustive one by any means. Your feedback and suggestions are important to me. Please let me know your thoughts and let’s work together in keeping our neighborhood safe.
James Kwon
