‘The Little Miracle Ring’
Funny, right around the corner from the holidays, little miracles take place. Is it coincidence, a “God Shot” (a sign from God) or just plain luck? Whatever you call these occurrences, the outcome sure made me one happy bride. Here is the story about “the ring.”
On beautiful, October 31, Halloween, I thought I had lost my wedding band forever. One would think a person finding a diamond wedding band would turn the ring over to the manager in charge where we were having lunch. Well, they did not.
We were at a winery with another couple having a picnic. We were enjoying our food, sipping on some fine wine. A band was getting ready to play country music, and more people were arriving for the afternoon. The day was fun, and relaxing … no incidents, no problems.
I am a creature of habit and follow a set routine. I always put my glasses in the same area because I will always find them … same with my car keys, house key, etc.
I have a bad habit, and it is the reason I lost my ring. I will usually remove my band when I wash my hands at home or if I am rinsing dishes. I put my ring on the counter just above the sink, and sometimes I leave it there overnight. Not a good habit.
Our afternoon was winding down, and we were ready to head home. Before leaving, I went to use the restroom. As I began to wash my hands, I placed my ring on the sink counter. I didn’t think to put it in my vest pocket, nor did I put it inside my purse … in those few seconds I forgot about my wedding band. I left the restroom and exited the tasting room, walked out to our car, and we left.
About 10 minutes away from the winery, I looked at my left hand … something looked quite odd, and I yelled, “I don’t have my ring!” My husband made a few strongly worded remarks and turned the car back toward the winery in seconds flat.
My girlfriend goes with me back to the tasting room where I headed straight for the restroom. I was hoping my ring was still there … no such luck. I ask to see the manager, I explained everything to her, and she had the country music band make an announcement.
Meanwhile, I scribbled my name and phone number with the ring description on a piece of paper, just in case it was turned in before they closed. I was assured that it would turn up. I am glad someone was optimistic. I had a pretty strong feeling that ring was gone for good.
One week and one day after “the incident,” I am looking at my phone and I see a message and a picture of a hand with a diamond ring on it. The message read, “This is Jody, Elle, I believe we have your ring … please give me a call when you see this message.”
I couldn’t call the number fast enough. I spoke with Jody, there was no doubt they had my ring. She said someone was walking on the grass area and went to sit on one of the chairs, and the sparkle from the diamonds caught his eye, and he thought, “Someone is definitely missing this ring!” He turned it over to the manager at the winery.
I am baffled this ring was on the chair for over one week without having been noticed. Doesn’t that seem odd? Whatever really happened, I won’t know, but I am certain “little” miracles do happen, and they happen when you least expect them.
Whether this was coincidence, a “God Shot” or plain luck, there is no question my wedding band is “The Little Miracle Ring.” Never give up hope and always have faith. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
