Children, teenagers and adults are invited to participate in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, run by Los Angeles Public Libraries, which kicked off June 5 and will run through August 5.
The theme this year is “My L.A.”
“Explore Los Angeles and share why this city is special to you,” according to the website. “We all have a story to tell that makes each of us say, this is ‘My L.A.’”
Participants are able to earn badges for reading and completing learning-based activities, and can register online or in-person to begin collecting participation prizes. All participants receive a tote bag, and children 5 to 11 years old can drop by their local library to pick up a Summer Badge Book filled with stickers and activities to do, while supplies last.
Entrants can earn one badge by reading for one hour, and another badge for completing an activity. After earning 15 badges, participants are eligible to be entered into grand prize drawings.
The library provides a number of resources to guide individuals through the challenge, including booklists for recommendations, access to its Indie Author Project to discover local authors and more.
