A one-and-a-half-acre brush fire that broke out Friday evening, February 10, just after 5 p.m. near 14830 Pacific Coast Highway was contained at 6:01 p.m., Los Angeles Fire Department Spokesperson Nicholas Prange reported.
“LAFD and Santa Monica firefighters mounted an attack by ground and air on the burning brush in steep terrain,” Prange wrote. “It took 49 LAFD firefighters 50 minutes to snuff out the flames, holding the burn to approximately one and a half acres.”
Crews remained on scene to “ensure any remaining hot spots” were eliminated.
“When the first firefighters got on scene, they did not observe any signs of an encampment, no tent or bulky items,” according to Los Angeles Police Department Senior Lead Officer Brian Espin. “The area behind the wall was clear as of yesterday evening [February 9] by the Beach Detail.”
The cause of the fire has been listed as “undetermined,” LAFD PIO Captain Erik Scott told the Palisadian-Post Tuesday morning, February 14.
