Los Angeles health officials issued a warning to beachgoers on Monday, Oct. 17 that storm runoff from recent rains may have increased the level of debris and bacteria in the ocean.
The rain advisory urged visitors to avoid areas where runoff was dumping into the ocean, either from storm drains, creeks or rivers. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health warned, “elevated bacteria levels in ocean water can cause illness, especially in children and the elderly.”
The department said the rain advisory will remain in effect until 7 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, but assured that “anybody who wants to go to the beach will still be able to enjoy their outing,” because storm runoff entry points only make up a small portion of beach areas.
Palisadians should keep an eye out for these coastal trouble areas with more precipitation on the way this fall.
