Back in high school, lifelong Palisadian Jo Kremer was one of the top beach volleyball players in the entire country. Now in college, she’s right back on top.
After transferring from Notre Dame to USC last year at semester break to concentrate on the sand game, Kremer fit right in with the Women of Troy, who won the inaugural NCAA national championship May 6-8 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Kremer was in the starting lineup, playing in the No. 5 position with Zoe Nightingale, a graduate student transfer from UCLA. Known on the college beach circuit as Zo/Jo, they won all of their matches in straight sets over the three-day competition and made the All-Tournament team. The best-of-five final pitted USC against Florida State and the Women of Troy won 3-0, with Zo/Jo notching the first point with a 21-14, 21-12 victory.
A St. Matthew’s graduate, Kremer played AYSO and Westside Breakers club soccer, YMCA and Rec Center basketball and Bobby Sox Softball. She honed her beach skills in Sinjin Smith’s volleyball camp at Will Rogers State Beach, played for Sunshine Volleyball Club and earned All-CIF honors indoors at Harvard-Westlake High.
