Kevin Carswell, an academic and baseball standout at Loyola High School and New Mexico State University, just returned to Pacific Palisades after a summer of playing baseball in the Midwest.
The 195 pound, 6’1” right-handed pitcher stayed with a family in Omaha, Nebraska, while playing games in Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri.
Growing up in Pacific Palisades and attending St. Matthew’s, Carswell played T-ball and little league at the Field of Dreams, where he was often coached by his dad John Carswell. As a 9 year old, he switched to the Santa Monica league for three years before coming back to the Palisades Pony league and leading his team, the Pali Blues, to a championship in 2008.
While at Loyola, Carswell pitched and caught for three years on the varsity team. As a senior, he was selected captain and most valuable player with an ERA of 2.47 while striking out 31 batters. He received the Brian J. Ulmer Award and was selected first team all-league in 2012.
Carswell was also a National Merit Scholar, and after graduating from Loyola in 2012, earned a baseball scholarship to the Division I program at New Mexico State University.
After his freshman year, he was selected as a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda, a national leadership and honors organization.
Kevin’s parents are John and Mindy Carswell. Pitching must run in the family because his sister Courtney, 17, who will be a senior at Palisades High School, pitched her sophomore and junior year on the varsity softball team, and sister Caroline, 14, who will be a freshman at PaliHi, also pitched for St. Matthew’s middle school softball team.
