Palisades High senior Bailey Jones saved the biggest leap of his life for one of the biggest stages in prep track and field.
In an elite group that included some of the best triple jumpers in the country, Jones put forth his career-best effort to take third place Saturday at the Arcadia Invitational with a stellar mark of 47 feet, 10.25 inches. His previous best was 45-7.75 at the Culver City Relays on March 3.
Jones, a City Section leader in the long jump and triple jump, was bettered only by Eastlake senior Jalyn Jackson (49-10.25) and Temecula Great Oak senior Cecil Stevenson (48-10.50). He also took seventh in the Open Division of the 110-meter hurdles in a wind-aided 14.96.
The rest of the Dolphins were at the Tiger Classic in South Pasadena. Freshman Miranda Schriver was second in the girls 3200 in 11:16.08 and sophomore Erica Bagby was second in the pole vault (11-06.00).
