We note with sadness the passing of Joan Linton Moxon, a longtime resident of Pacific Palisades, at Santa Monica Home & Care, an assisted living facility, on Aug. 30, 2015.
Joan was born in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1946 after serving in the British Army during WWII.
Subsequently she immigrated to the United States in 1948 where she lived with her aunt in Teaneck, New Jersey and worked for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City.
She met her future husband on a retreat to the Pocono Mountains in 1955.
They were married in Teaneck, New Jersey in 1957 and subsequently moved to California where her husband went to work for Hughes Aircraft in Los Angeles in 1959.
Subsequently the two bought a house in the Palisades in 1959.
Joan was active at home and in the Palisades Methodist Church, bringing up two sons Bruce and Ian.
The boys attended elementary school in the Palisades as well as Paul Revere Middle School and Palisades Charter High School.
The two sons both attended UCLA in Westwood, the eldest graduating in Computer Science and the younger majoring in Geology.
Bruce went on with a Master’s degree from USC while Ian attended Stanford University graduating with a doctorate in Geology.
Bruce currently resides with his wife Trish and two sons Drew and Blair in San Jose, California, where he currently works for Samsung Electronics Co.
Ian resides in Houston, Texas where he works with BP, the British Oil and Gas Co., where he has worked since graduation from Stanford.
Joan is survived by her husband Beresford “Barry” Moxon, who currently lives in the Palisades.
Barry has a B.A in chemistry and a Master’s degree in Physics from Northwestern University and worked initially for Hughes Aircraft in Los Angeles, continuing in the aerospace field and related scientific product companies until retirement in 1981.
