Students in third through fifth grade at Palisades Elementary Charter School gathered in Palisades Branch Library for a reading from “Jar of Hearts,” an anthology written by the students under the direction of Michelle Bitting Abrams.
For the 10th year, Bitting Abrams led a California Poets in the Schools workshop for 500-plus students in Pacific Palisades and beyond. This year, she worked with Pali Elementary and Marquez Charter Elementary School.
The 59-page anthology of poems features front cover artwork from Sawyer Armbrust and back cover by Noelle Hagen.
“Read lots of poetry, write lots of poetry,” Bitting Abrams told the audience.
Dozens of students signed up to read their pieces, which ranged from asking questions to examining what is love.
