A new restaurant and bar at 108 W. Channel Road will take the place of the now-closed Sam’s by the Beach and is slated to open in August as Mason, a restaurant by the h.wood Group.
The restaurant with full bar will be a reservation-only establishment and will offer “American classic cuisine,” including steaks, dry-aged chops, salads and “bold-flavored side dishes” like oysters and seafood, according to Dianne Quirante, a public relations representative for Mason.
The new menu will be a “nod to classic American and chophouse food, where every dish has a chef/local market-driven flair to each dish with exploring fun combinations of flavors and ingredients,” Quirante said.
Sam’s by the Beach—after more than 10 years in its Santa Monica Canyon location—closed in December 2017. The restaurant served “California/Mediterranean” fare, including calamari with couscous and smoked quails stuffed with goat cheese and apples.
Operating under the name Change the Channel, LLC, the h.wood Group also owns the neighboring Shore Bar, and will be opening other Mason locations in Chicago and San Francisco.
The Los Angeles-based group was founded in 2008 by John Terzian and Brian Toll, and includes a nightlife and restaurant division, corporate branding, real estate development, and event production.
