Youth and improvement are two of the themes for the 2013 Palisades High girls lacrosse team, a year after it fell to Palos Verdes in the Southern Section County Division semifinals.
Head coach Juliet Mittleman, in her ninth season, has seen the Dolphins be a fixture in the postseason, and this year could be an adjustment. With a roster comprised primarily of freshmen and sophomores, Mittleman has a chance to mold the team into something special for the future.
“There’s the need to be unified and compensate for what they maybe don’t have athletically, through discipline, hard work, fitness and things we can control,” Mittleman said.
Among the players expected to make significant contributions this season are junior center Emily Tomimatsu, junior defender Tiffany Kim, freshman attacker/midfielder Laura Sussman and sophomore defender Leisel Staubitz.
The Dolphins are 1-3 on the season, earning a victory via forfeit against Manual Arts before losses to Beverly Hills, Westridge and Birmingham. They play at Huntington Park today, at Valley Academy of Arts and Sciences on Saturday, then return home after spring break on April 2 against Glendale at 3:30 p.m.
