The Palisades High girls basketball team tips off the season next week when it hosts the 10th annual Palisades Beach Invitational.
Coach Torino Johnson has assembled an elite field which includes state champions Alemany and Lynwood and Open division state runner-up Windward, ranked seventh in the nation with UCLA-bound Jordin Canada and USC-bound Kristen Simon.
“If we take care of business and Windward does too, we’re going to play each other and I’m really looking forward to it,” Johnson said. “I won’t be disappointed wherever we finish — I want whatever we earn.”
Rounding out the 16-team bracket are Valencia, Chaminade, Camarillo, Fullerton Troy, Palos Verdes, Bishop Montgomery, Westchester, Garces, Marlborough, Taft and JW North of Riverside.
The Dolphins open Monday against Santa Monica at 5:30 p.m. The championship game is at 8:30 p.m. next Saturday, November 30. No games will be played on Thanksgiving.
