Actor Matthew Perry, known for his starring role as Chandler Bing on NBC’s “Friends,” died on Saturday, October 28. He was found in the hot tub at his Pacific Palisades home on Blue Sail Drive.
Perry had sent his assistant out on an errand, according to TMZ, who returned two hours later to find Perry unconscious. Authorities responded at about 4 p.m. to his home.
Currently, there is no foul play suspected, but the incident will remain under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department Robbery-Homicide Division, according to CNN.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office updated its online report on Sunday, October 29, stating that the cause of death is “deferred.” According to the website, “deferred” means the cause of death is pending additional investigation. When the coroner has more information, a cause of death should be determined.
Perry was a fan-favorite for the role he played on “Friends,” which ran for over 10 seasons and celebrated a cast-reunion in 2021.
Perry’s “Friends” cast members released a joint statement to People magazine on Monday, October 30, in response to the news of his passing.
“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just castmates. We are a family,” Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer said in the statement. “There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”
Perry moved to the Palisades in August 2020, purchasing a $6 million cottage at the time, according to Variety. He made the move after listing two of his other properties: a Malibu beach house and Los Angeles penthouse.
