
Longtime Pacific Palisades resident Fay Samulon passed away on April 7 at the age of 95.”She moved with her husband, Henry, and two young sons to the El Medio bluffs neighborhood in 1956, where she lived until her passing.” Born in Bern, Switzerland, on June 11, 1916, Fay graduated from the University of Zurich as a dentist, then practiced dentistry in Switzerland.’She married Henry, a refugee from Hitler’s Germany, in the early 1940s. They immigrated to the United States with their son Fred in 1947, settling in Syracuse, New York, before moving to Los Angeles in 1955.’ They moved’to the Palisades two years after Henry attended a conference in Berkeley and fell in love with California. He accepted a position with Ramo Wooldridge, working in the early days of the space program. Henry passed away in 1997. Fay was a dedicated volunteer. An active member of Hadassah and the League of Women Voters for over five decades, she ran polling stations over four decades and tutored children at local public schools, including Palisades Elementary, until last year.’In the past she also volunteered for Head Start and transcribed books into Braille for the Junior Blind.’ ’Fay was a wonderful lady,’ said Margie Lux, a longtime member of the Palisades League of Women Voters. ‘She was a vital, beloved and devoted member of our unit.’ Additionally, Fay and her husband were both active members of Kehillat Israel synagogue for 55 years, having both served on its board. ” Fay led an active life right up until she passed away.’An excellent amateur pianist, she loved attending local orchestral concerts and plays and was an avid reader. She was fluent in English, German, Swiss German, Yiddish and French, and continued taking Spanish classes until the week of her death. Fay will be fondly remembered for her delicious cookies, strudels and pies, her commitment to family and community, her love of children, nature and the outdoors and her life-long pursuit of making the world a better place for those less fortunate. She is survived by her two sons, Fred (wife Marta) of Sunset Mesa, and Eliot (wife Thelma) of Los Feliz; five grandchildren and two great-grandsons.’Her granddaughter, Danielle Samulon, lives with her husband Jesse Shapiro and their two children in Pacific Palisades.’The other grandchildren live in Tasmania, Paris, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Services were held on April 10 at Hillside Memorial Park. Donations in Fay’s memory can be made to the League of Women Voters.’
