Santa Monica College’s fall ‘Environmental Issues Lecture Series,’ encompassing topics such as green innovation and environmental politics, begins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11, in Room 263 of the Humanities and Social Science Building, 1900 Pico Blvd. Tuesday’s lecture, ‘Sustainable Works: Local Action, Global Impact,’ will be followed by ‘Santa Monica College on the Path to Sustainability’ (October 2); ‘Environmental Politics and Ecological Democracy’ (October 23); ‘Green Innovation: How California is Reducing Emissions and Growing the Economy’ (November 20); and ‘Discover Your Santa Monica Mountains’ (November 27). The series is sponsored by SMC’s Center for Environmental and Urban Studies. The center, which is open to the public, features displays, a library and information center, video collection, native garden and other services and activities related to environmental and urban studies.
