
Elizabeth Reamer Palmer, a former longtime resident of Pacific Palisades, died peacefully April 9 in San Luis Obispo. She was 94. Elizabeth was born August 8, 1917 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to Ebern and Lillie Reamer. She was the older sister to Ebern ‘Bud’ Reamer and Victor Reamer. While attending high school in Okmulgee she met Charles Hersman Palmer. Their mutual attraction resulted in marriage in 1936. ‘ In 1942, Elizabeth and Charles relocated to Santa Monica, where Charles worked for McDonnell- Douglas. They welcomed son Richard Palmer in 1948 and settled in the Palisades in 1953, where Elizabeth resided until 2011. ‘ She worked for Sears for 23 years, moving her way up from part-time work to the secretary to the manager before retiring. Never one to be idle, Elizabeth soon sought part-time work at a local gift shop, Forgette’s, on Swarthmore Avenue. She and Charles were able to travel extensively, visiting Europe, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South America. ‘ Elizabeth was a devout Christian and held various positions at her church of many years, Palisades Lutheran. Said Pastor Wally Mees, ‘Elizabeth was a proverbial pillar of our congregation.’At 92, she was handling the finances for the women’s group, picking up people who needed rides, and serving as president of our Church Council. Whatever was happening, there was Elizabeth, and when she turned 90 during Family Camp a few Julys ago, the children all crowded around her to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ and share her cake. She was a treasure.’ Elizabeth remained active all her life, enjoying hobbies such as tai chi, square dancing and being a docent at Will Rogers State Park. She enjoyed gardening, reading and playing with her great-grandsons, Logan, Luke and Camden. ‘ She was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 1995 and her son Richard in 2011. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Linda Palmer of San Luis Obispo; grandson Matthew Palmer (wife Brittney) of Atascadero; granddaughter Becky Palmer (husband Anthony) of Los Osos; and great-grandsons Camden Palmer of Atascadero and Logan Au-Palmer and Luke Au-Palmer of Los Osos. She has been buried next to her husband Charles in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. The family thanks Hospice Partners and the caring staff at Brophy’s Place in San Luis Obispo. A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, at Palisades Lutheran Church.
