Neighbors in Pacific Palisades should not worry about a group of contractors claiming to be L.A. Department of Water and Power workers but they should continue to be vigilant, say police officials.
Los Angeles Police Department Senior Lead Officer Michael Moore said he received several calls from residents in late December regarding a group of suspicious men posing as DWP workers.
The men were reported to be canvassing the area of Galloway Street, Moore said, adding that he alerted other police officers to check into the matter.
But a check of paperwork revealed the men, employees of Osmose Utilities Services, had been contracted by DWP to check power lines in the Palisades for safety and repair needs, Moore explained.
Damaged power lines caused several blackouts in the area during a bout of rainstorms in December.
“The community did a good job of contacting police, while the men were in the area,” Moore said.
Moore said residents are not required to let the Osmose workers onto their property, but at this time there is no cause for alarm regarding their activity.
But residents should continue to be vigilant of solicitors especially if they notice suspicious behavior, he said.
Many Palisadians were alarmed when a noticeable increase of break-ins occurred in the area last year.
From July to September 2014, there were a total of 78 property crimes reported.
