There have been some impressive upgrades to dentistry in Pacific Palisades over the past two years. ’The number of children entering my practice was growing rapidly, and after 20 years of caring for families in the Palisades, I knew that it would benefit the community to bring pediatric specialists to the Palisades,’ says Dr. Phil Kamins, co-director of Pacific Palisades Dentistry in the 881 Alma Real Building (Suite 315). Several years ago, Dr. Kamins started a search for a pediatric dental specialist to join him in the practice. Teaming up with his friend and mentor, Dr. Philip Trask, a board-certified pediatric dental specialist, the vision came to fruition in January 2010. ’Dr. Trask and I created Pacific Palisades Pediatric Dentistry to give the children of our community a resource for dental care and education that is second to none,’ Kamins said. Recently Dr. Trask, a clinical professor at the UCLA School of Dentistry’s pediatric department, brought two bright, young pediatric specialists into the practice: Dr. Albert Liu and Dr. Carrie Loewen. Everyone is invited to an Open House on Wednesday, November 2, from 3 to 7 p.m., to meet the new dentists and see the practice’s state-of-the-art, kid-friendly, newly remodeled offices. Albert Liu, a Southern California native, attended Temple University for dental school, spent six years practicing as a family dentist in Boston and then joined the craniofacial/cleft palate team at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital. That prompted him to return to a program and residency in pediatric dentistry at UCLA (where he is now a faculty member part-time). Carrie Loewen, born in California, majored in chemistry at Texas Tech University, where she met her husband, George Martinez. They moved to Los Angeles in 2009 when she was accepted to the UCLA School of Dentistry. There, she says, ‘I realized my passion of pediatric dentistry.’ Pacific Palisades Pediatric Dentistry now has the only pediatric dental specialists in the community.
