Dr. Susan Love, the well-known breast cancer book author, researcher and patient advocate, will be the guest speaker at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11 at the Woman’s Club, 901 Haverford.
Love, a Palisadian, will update club members on her foundation’s efforts to research and eradicate the disease.
She will also discuss the difference between a researcher and a patient, which, she says, is simply a diagnosis. “We are all patients,” she says, a fact which came home to her when she was given a diagnosis of acute myelogenous leukemia last year. After unsuccessful chemotherapy, Love underwent a bone-marrow transplant, with marrow donated by her younger sister.
Humbled by the experience and the aftermath of the procedure, Love says that her knowledge of the disease and treatment strengthened her understanding of what women with breast cancer and other cancers go through during treatments.
The talk will be followed by lunch ($10) at 12:45 p.m. Call (310) 454-9012.
