June 2, 1927 – April 3, 2018
Doris Donovan passed away peacefully on April 3 at the age of 90.
Doris was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Albert and Fannie Efram. She was valedictorian at North Division High School in Milwaukee, and obtained her B.A. and M.A. in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin.
Doris worked as a mathematician at Cornell Aeronutical Laboratories in Buffalo, New York. She married Allen F. Donovan, and they had two children, Kathy and Marshall. Doris also raised Allen’s son, Michael, from the time he was 10 years old. The family moved to Pacific Palisades in 1955.
In addition to enjoying her family and friends, Doris was active in the early years of the Palisades Tennis Club (as membership chairman and secretary) and in the Santa Monica Teen Tennis Program. She also was a ceramicist, especially of large wheel thrown items, a craft she learned at Santa Monica College from Bruce Tomkinson.
She loved dogs and cats, and enjoyed traveling to Europe and to National Parks and cities in the U.S. and Canada, as well as spending time at Rancho La Puerta in Baja California. She moved to Sacramento in 2013.
She is survived by her children: Kathy Donovan (husband Larry Aronson) and Marshall Donovan (wife Sandy Robertson); her grandson Matt Aronson; and her two step-grandsons, Kevin Donovan and Shaun Donovan (wife Shelley and sons Rilan and Declan).
She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Donald Efram and Dennis Efram, and by her step-son, Michael Donovan.
At her request, there will be no service.
