


Speed and endurance were on full display at the Western League Track & Field Relays last Wednesday at University High—and much of it came from Palisades’ boys and girls teams, which burned up the oval in both the sprints and distance events.
Varsity girls highlights included Kylie Webster clocking 21.8 seconds in the 100 hurdles; Webster, Elysha Chae, Alexis Ticer and Shyla Pierre running the 4×100 relay in 52.9; and Kelyse Burgess clocking 52.54 in the 300 hurdles. Palisades’ sprint medley relayers Jasmine Velasquez, Sophia Santillan, Cindy Abarca and Avery Searle clocked 4:44.8 and the 4×800 relay team of Tierney Smith, Searle, Kyra Morris and Scarlett Klein won in 11:43.89.
Varsity boys highlights included Javier Tiscareno’s 17.6 seconds in the 110 hurdles; Savyour Riley, Marcus Brown, Jovon Alexander and Chris Washington clocking 46.16 in the 4×100; Josh Kovacs winning the 2000 meters in 6:38.0; Jared Abruscato, Caden Capps, Vafa Voughes and Daylen Dacay posting 4:09.8 in the sprint medley relay; Adam Andres running the 300 hurdles in 51.03; and Owen Lewicky, Hayden Morrison, Dacay and Alec Schmitt winning the 4×800 in 9:25.38.
Two days later at the Redondo Nike Track Festival, David Tobin, Noah Wexler, Dacay and Bodhi Sahakian ran the 4×800 race in 8:26.86.
Pacing the Dolphins in the girls 3200 meters were Ava Baak (11:59.30), Morris (12:31.80) and Mollie Wittenberg. Excelling for the boys were reigning City cross country champion Max Fields (9:33.10), Jose Sevilla (9:49.37) and Axel Mammel (10:11.40).
