There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic for the Palisades High cross country team after an impressive showing at the Seaside Invitational in Ventura last Friday.
In the first race of the afternoon, freshman Miranda Schriver ran the flat three-mile course in 18:36.3, finishing second behind Harvard-Westlake’s Natalie Quintero (18:16.2). Jennifer Karlan was the Dolphins’ second finisher in 20:53.3, followed by Molly Tenenbaum (21:26.7) in a field of 200 runners.
In the freshman boys race, Lucas Schriver was sixth out of 224 runners in 16:13.0. Mason Cadden was 16th in 17:02.7.
In the sophomore girls race, Sarah Bentley, the L.A. City Section 3200 meter champion in the spring, clocked 17:42.3 to place fourth out of 168 runners. Elisa Kim, who won the frosh/soph 800 and 1600 at the City track finals in May was 19th in 19:46.4 and Casandra Hernandez (20:23.2) came in 29th place. Alec Stewart was 29th out of 227 runners in the sophomore boys race in 16:49.4.
In the junior girls race, Brittany Darrow (19:02.7) was 11th out of 176, Skylar Smith (20:13.3) was 32nd, Jessica Bierschenk (20:29.2) was 36th and Holland Mueller (20:34.0) was 38th. For the boys, Brent Smith (first at Seaside as a freshman, third last year) was fourth in 15:07.8 and Ryan Breitman (16:03.6) was 18th.
Ilaria Stewart (21:29.4) paced Palisades’ senior girls and Joseph Reed (18:27.8) paced the boys.
