Construction on Rick Caruso’s Palisades Village development has entered the demolition phase.
On Monday, Aug. 22, the ground was excavated at the site of the former Mobil, unearthing the gas tanks to make way for a completely different use of the space.
The spot was formerly Rocco’s Mobil Station, owned by Rocco Ross, the father of Palisadian-Post Publisher Roberta Donohue. Since 1990 it was owned by Saeed Kohanoff, until he sold the property to Caruso last year.
(It is not the site of the landmark Flying A service station once owned and ran by Palisadian Jack Sauer; that was on the corner of Sunset and La Cruz.)
Although Mobil has seen the end of its days, a few shops that were formerly in the project area have reopened for business elsewhere in the Palisades.
Michele International is back in business at 15335 Sunset Blvd.
Carly K is at 1013 Swarthmore Ave., one of the street’s stores to remain open during construction, along with Solis Salon, Get Dressed and P2.
