Dear Vany,
Now that summer is about to start, I am worried I will have too much free time. What are some fun things I can do to stay busy?
—Summer of Fun
Dear Summer of Fun,
I totally understand this feeling! Summer is our one break from school and we definitely want to make the most of it. So here is your ultimate summer bucket list!
- Go to brunch with friends!
- Paint your door with all different patterns!
- Have a bake off with your friends!
- Have a water balloon fight with your friends!
- Go on a hike or to a beach!
- Make friendship bracelets!
- Beach picnic with your friends or family!
- Tye-dye old clothes!
- Go to a drive-in movie!
- Go on a sunset walk!
I hope these are helpful ideas!
Have a great summer!
Thank you for writing!

Dear Vany,
My mom is making me play a sport next year. What are some of your favorite things to play?
—Undecided Athlete
Dear Undecided Athlete,
Good question: this can be a hard decision. If you have good coordination and you like being on a team, I’d recommend baseball or basketball. If you want to work up to being on a team but work at your own pace for right now, I’d recommend dance or swimming.
If outside sports that are a little more dirty aren’t for you, I’d recommend water polo, hockey, figure skating, or ballet. Lacrosse and soccer are great if you don’t want to be outright tackling people, but if you do, wrestling and football are the way to go.
Always remember it’s never too late to try something new! Michael Jordan started basketball in junior high and Misty Copeland started ballet at the age of 13!
Just remember, find something you love and you will be great!
Thank you for writing!
—Vany
