December 15, 1928 – July 28, 2019
David “Dave” Denison Lambert IV died peacefully at the age of 90, Sunday, July 28, at his home in Santa Monica with his wife of 44 years, Barbara, by his side.
Born in Southbury, Connecticut, to Helen Beckley and Latham Lambert, Dave grew up in New Haven, Connecticut. He earned his engineering degree from Yale University where he was a letterman on the varsity crew team and met his first wife, Elizabeth Anne Fraser.
Dave and Anne drove their family of five cross-country, moving them to Malibu in 1967. Dave moved to Oahu in 1970 and then, in 1975, happily settled in Pacific Palisades with Barbara and their panoramic view of Santa Monica Bay.
Dave was a respected competitor through his 89th year, playing tennis at Rustic Canyon for 45 years and throwing the bowls at Santa Monica Lawn Bowling Club. Dave was also a formidable bridge player, playing weekly with Barbara as his partner. And twice a week at 5 a.m., you could find him running laps on the Santa Monica stairs.
Dave and Barbara volunteered their time to feed the homeless weekly for three decades, and they hosted and participated in gatherings of non-duality spiritual leaders over the past 45 years.
In his business career, Dave was a leading executive in industrial management. He was responsible for global manufacturing for Olivetti Underwood and an executive for DuCommun Metals/Supply Company and Daiwa, before becoming an executive coach with Bernard Haldane Associates.
Coaching became his true passion, and Dave launched his own practice for 25 years, helping his clients thrive joyfully in both their business and personal lives.
Dave is survived by his wife, Barbara Gholson Lambert; his three children, Virginia (Keith) Fogg, Sandee (Jan Werner) Lambert and Duke (Margo) Lambert; six grandchildren, Trevor (Erin), Brent (Ashleigh), David VI, Caroline (Justin), Megan, Lauren (Jason); and five great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
There will be a celebration of Dave’s life on Saturday, September 7, at 2 p.m. at Rustic Canyon Recreation Center (in the Gallery), located at 601 Latimer Road.
Donations in honor of Dave may be made to the Santa Monica Lawn Bowls Club, 2439 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90403; 310-440-9440.
