The trial for Brian Thomas Cruz will continue on Thursday, Aug. 3 after Judge Lauren Weis-Birnstein deliberates upon the results of the defendant’s latest psychological evaluation.
The new report could potentially reduce jail time for the 47-year-old homeless man charged with kidnapping, carjacking and assault if the court deems him to be mentally incompetent.
The news comes months after the trial was scheduled to conclude, even after prior reports found the accused of sound mind.
