Drew Daniele scored the two touchdowns, including the game-winner on the final play, as the Cowboys upset the undefeated Rams, 21-20, to win the Palisades Recreation Center’s Bantam Division flag football championship December 16 at the Field of Dreams. Daniele dove into the end zone for the decisive touchdown on a 12-yard sweep, his second rushing score of the game. Earlier, Cowboys’ quarterback Shane Skelly threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Mardirossian. All three were also key contributors on defense. The Cowboys, who had finished the regular season in second place, also got outstanding play from Nicholas Massey, Mac Brenner, Anthony Spencer, Riley Byington, Billy Howenstein and Jackson Rodeno. “I’ve been coaching baseball, basketball and now football for about three years and I’ve never witnessed a group of kids with that much determination,” said Cowboys Coach Mark Skelly, who was assisted throughout the season by Curt Massey. “They never quit and really believed, down to the last second, that they would win. I’m really proud of them.”
