Efforts began bright and early on Saturday morning, March 4, as community members gathered at the Village Green for a cleanup event, hosted by Palisades-Malibu YMCA, Palisades Village Green and Palisades Charter High School Ambassadors.
Organizer Robin Weitz previously spearheaded the Community Cleanup in September 2021, with assistance from the same groups.
The event called on all members of the community—from businesses, faith-based groups, civic organizations, individuals and beyond—to grab a trash bag and gloves to walk the streets of Pacific Palisades and pick up litter.
Trash bags and disposable gloves were provided by Los Angeles Sanitation, while snacks were provided by board members of the Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club.
Weitz thanked Village Green Board Co-Presidents Betsy Collins and Cindy Kirven, as well as Village Green Corresponding Secretary and Past President Marge Gold, as the Village Green was “the perfect place for supply distribution.”
Participants were encouraged to wear sunscreen, sunglasses, long sleeves and covered shoes to be well-prepared for the cleanup, which lasted from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Weitz told the Palisadian-Post the day saw volunteers from Pali High, including the school’s Ambassadors and Diplomats, the Palisades-Malibu YMCA, families from Corpus Christi Church, Los Angeles Police Department Senior Lead Officer Brian Espin and more.
Individuals were grouped into teams of 10 to clean designated zones. The teams were sent to hiking trails, the Village and Temescal Canyon Boulevard, the Via and El Medio Bluffs, Palisades Drive, the beach—from Chautauqua to the coastline—and public areas like Palisades Recreation Center, Palisades Branch Library and more.
“I am grateful to be a part of a community that contributes to making it a better place,” Weitz said to the Post. “Thank you to the many others that collected trash … Volunteers gathered more than 25 bags of trash. Bruce Schwartz took at least 20 bags to a nearby trash bin, the disposal required two trips. This was an amazing effort with successful results. Let’s keep the Palisades clean.”
