BakeCamp Los Angeles is coming to Pacific Palisades on Saturday, October 14. The event invited community members to celebrate National Cookie Month with local bakers and raise funds for Paw Works.
The October 14 event is the second of three BakeCamp LA cookie-tasting festivals held across LA and will take place at Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club, located at 901 Haverford Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. BakeCamp helps support Paw Works, a nonprofit animal rescue.
“The first BakeCamp LA event was held in Hollywood last week and was a tasty success,” according to the BakeCamp team. “The bakers—several from the Palisades and surrounding areas—can’t wait for this Saturday’s event.”
Each BakeCamp event invites over 50 pro and amateur bakers to compete to be crowned “LA’s Favorite Cookie Baker,” as voted on by attendees and a panel of judges. This year’s BakeCamp judges are Neil Saavedra, Sarah J. Gim, Kiano Moju, Steven Chavez and Catherine McCord.
The top amateur baker will win a collaboration with Southern California-based gourmet cookie company, The Cravory, to create a custom cookie and sell it nationwide.
BakeCamp is produced by LA-based BakeSpace, a Webby-honored food social network that launched in 2006. BakeSpace Founder Babette Pepaj said BakeCamp bakers range from LA’s most prominent artisan cookie makers, to home bakers with recipes passed down through generations.
“Attendees step into a cookie wonderland where they can savor an extraordinary range of flavors—from classics such as Dark Chocolate Chunk and Birthday Cake Funfetti, to adventurous combinations like Barbenheimer Macarons,” according to a press release. “There’s something for everyone, including dog-friendly ‘bark bites’ to take home to canine cookie lovers.
“While BakeCamp is for humans, each event includes a Paw Works ‘Barkery’ with rescue animals to remind cookie lovers that every tasty bite helps save a life.”
Chef Valentina Kenney Wein told the Palisadian-Post she is “so excited” for the October 14 event.
“You can’t really beat tasting delectable cookies from LA’s top bakers—while helping cute puppies,” she said. “I’m making my original Chai Chocolate Chunk Cookies, my all-time favorite cookie recipe. Chai spices, melted chocolate chunks, and buttery dough come together to create a downright magical cookie experience. I hope everyone joins us this Saturday to have fun, enjoy delicious cookies and support Paw Works.”
A range of ticket packages are available based on the number of cookie tasting tickets, starting at $15 for kids. Palisadians can use the code “puppies” to save $10 at checkout.
For community members who can’t make it to the October 14 event, the next BakeCamp LA will take place on October 22 in the San Fernando Valley.
