After considering a proposal to narrow the City Section Open Division football playoffs to four teams, coaches voted to keep the current format intact for the 2019 season meaning that the top eight teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the upper bracket and the next 16 will play for the Division I crown.
The Open Division is entering its third season, with Harbor City Narbonne winning it each of the first two years—routing Crenshaw 48-7 in 2017 and crushing Garfield 55-7 last fall.
After competing in the Division I playoffs in each of Coach Tim Hyde’s first five seasons, Palisades qualified for the Open Division for the first time last year as the No. 7 seed, losing 24-21 in the quarterfinal round to second-seeded Eagle Rock.
