
Author Janie Dempsey Watts, a former Pacific Palisades resident, will discuss her debut novel, “Moon Over Taylor’s Ridge,” at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23 at the Kaufman-Brentwood Branch Library, 11820 San Vicente Blvd. She will also sign copies of her book.
Set in Georgia and California, the novel follows a woman’s unexpected trip home to the Cherokee country of northwest Georgia that takes her on a “journey of the heart.” Featuring a search for a legendary Cherokee silver mine, the novel offers mystery, history and romance.
Nominated for Georgia Author of the Year for a debut novel, Watts was also nominated for a Southern Independent Booksellers Award and was a finalist in the Augusta Literary Festival.
Watts penned the first several drafts of her novel while living in the Palisades. Her stories have been published in the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series, magazines and anthologies. One of her stories on Vincent Van Gogh was published in the Palisadian-Post (March 29, 2007).
Watts is married to Stephen Spataro, and has two sons: Jack, who graduated from Palisades High School, and Anthony, who graduated from Crossroads.
