The Pacific Palisades Chamber of Commerce will hold its 62nd Annual Installation Dinner Dance on Thursday evening, June 16, at The Riviera Country Club. Honorary Mayor Gavin MacLeod (‘The Love Boat,’ ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’) will be saying farewell as honorary mayor, after five unprecedented years as captain of the USS Pacific Palisades. Outgoing Chamber President John Petrick notes ‘No honorary mayor of Pacific Palisades has ever served five years. Mayors Ted Knight, John Raitt and Steve Guttenberg each served four years, but Gavin MacLeod made Palisades history!’ The town’s 27th honorary mayor will be Sugar Ray Leonard, the retired boxing great who lives with his family in the upper Riviera neighborhood. Winner of world titles in five weight divisions between 1979 and 1989, Leonard is now actively involved in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Stepping into the job of Chamber president will be Greg Wood, chief financial officer at Palisades Charter High School. During the evening, the Best New Business Award will be presented to Rena Bornstein, owner of Cognitiatives Brain Training Systems. The Chamber’s annual Beautification Award, presented by the Rotary Club of Pacific Palisades, will be given to Palisades High for its sparkling new Maggie Gilbert Aquatic Center. The Ninth Annual Mort Farberow Award will be received by longtime Palisadian Susan Carroll, owner of Gift Garden Antiques on Antioch Street. Criteria for the Farberow award are the three C’s that Mort (former owner of Mort’s Deli) held dear to him: community, Chamber and children. Past recipients include Bob Benton, Bob Sharka, Roberta Donohue, Cheryel Kanan, Sam Lagana, David Williams, Rich Wilken and Bob Ryan. In addition to Greg Wood, the Chamber’s new board of directors will include John Petrick (Perennial Financial Services), immediate past president: Nicole Howard (This Week in the Palisades.com), president-elect; Joyce Brunelle (Suntricity, Inc.), vice president; Roberta Donohue (Palisadian-Post and Post Printing), past president and advisor; Sandy Eddy (American Cancer Society Discovery Shop), past president and advisor. The new board of directorts will include Chris Erickson (Aldersgate Retreat Center), Neil Godsey (Northwestern Mutual Financial), Zara Guivi (Oppenheimer & Company), Jennifer Lowe (mortgage broker), Ben Meyerson (Denise Carolyn for Women), Lynne Pizzia, (City National Bank), and Shannon Watson (D.C.,Vital Force). Leaving the board will be Brad Lusk (Self-Realization Lake Shrine), David Williams (Traveling Chef), and Susan Carroll. The evening’s master of ceremonies will be longtime Palisadian Sam Lagana, associate vice chancellor for athletics at Pepperdine University. There will be dancing to the music of Ernie Hernandez and his band, and silent auction items will be on display. The social hour will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $90.
