The Palisadian-Post has partnered with locally founded environmental nonprofit Resilient Palisades to deliver a weekly “green tip” to our readers. This week’s tip invites Palisadians to an upcoming celebration of Planet Earth and the Los Angeles community.
Angelenos and all residents of Planet Earth are invited for a celebration of our home for Earth Day. Volunteers have arranged a special event that includes food trucks, music and dancing, yoga classes, shopping for sustainable products, giveaways and fun activities for the entire family. It will be a day of education, celebration and action.
The Earth Day festival is taking place at Will Rogers State Historic Park on the weekend before the official global Earth Day. Now, more than ever, we need action to combat our climate crisis. A recent UN report warned that we are running out of time to stave off the most devastating consequences of global warming. Scientists who authored the report insist that urgent action on climate change is needed to “secure a livable future.” The Earth Day gathering will feature ways that people and businesses in our community can engage in simple lifestyle changes to make a big global impact. On April 22, 1970, Earth Day marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement. It is a day to honor our planet and remind us to do our best to protect and preserve our environment for future generations. The theme for this year’s global Earth Day is “Invest in Our Planet.”
The event is being organized by Resilient Palisades, sponsored by Los Angeles City District 11 and the Los Angeles City Mayor’s Office.
