Students at Calvary Christian School got in the Greek spirit during this year’s Cultural Arts Week. The events culminated with a celebration on Friday, Feb. 13 that highlighted the accomplishments of Grecians both past and present – with togas, laurel wreaths and silvery beards aplenty.
The event began with a slideshow of photos of the students taken throughout the week and all were met with uproarious applause and cheers from the audience of students, staff and parents.

Calvary students Kate Hassett and Lucia Lambros were the event’s emcees, delighting the crowd with songs and Greek vocabulary lessons. Lyric Soprano Michele Patzakis performed vocal pieces in Greek, and Maestro Lambros played traditional Greek songs on the boozooki – akin to a banjo or ukulele.

Greek historical figures (disguised as Calvary fifth-graders) soon took the stage including Socrates, Plato, Sophocles, Aristotle and Euripedes among others to teach the audience about how these important people still impact our lives today.

First, third and fifth-grade students danced everybody onto the quad for a Greek feast of gyros, kefta, kebabs and of course baklava.
