Robbie and Roscoe Bellamy added two more trophies to their mantle by capturing the Northridge-Matador Junior Tournament on September 25. The Pacific Palisades stars and sons of tennis visionary Steve Bellamy won their respective tournament fields, with Robbie capturing the boys 18 title and Roscoe winning the boys 12 crown. Both youngsters have already crafted impressive resumes, not just in Southern California but on the national circuit as well. Robbie is the No. 2 doubles player and No. 18 singles player in the boys 16s, with a top-10 ranking in the latter likely by year’s end. He ousted Seth Stolar in the Matador finals. Roscoe is No. 1 in the boys 12s nationally after finishing 2010 with the same top ranking in the boys 10s. He rallied after a first-set loss to defeat Seth Kim for the Matador title. For Steve Bellamy, founder of the Palisades Tennis Center, the Tennis Channel, and the Ski Channel, it’s yet another proud moment as a parent. ‘It’s great when you can see your children realize the fruits of their efforts,’ Bellamy said. Robbie, 16, and Roscoe, 11, make up only half the quartet of rising Bellamy tennis stars. There is also 13-year-old Lucas and 9-year-old Lincoln. And thanks to their dad’s tennis center at the Palisades Recreation Center, they always have a place to fine-tune their game. Update Following their success at the Matador, Robbie and Roscoe won their respective doubles titles this past week at the Orange County/Yamasaki Junior Open. For Robbie, that marks 22 consecutive doubles match victories and five straight doubles titles with his partner, Greg Garcia. They are currently the top-ranked team in the nation and won in the 18’s despite both being just 16. Roscoe entered the weekend with 10 straight match wins and continued his stellar play with his doubles partner, Michael Bott. Another Palisadian, Zoe Bennett, also had a notable performance at the Matador, advancing to the girls 10 singles finals.
