Palisadian Townsend Bell finished 14th in Sunday’s 99th Indianapolis 500 – a nine-spot improvement from his No. 23 starting position in a 33-car field.
Juan Pablo Montoya won for the second time, completing the 200 laps in three hours, five minutes and 56.52 seconds.

“I picked No. 24 as a tribute to Jeff Gordon – he’s a legend at the Brickyard,” Bell said. “I still get butterflies in the stomach. I had to be patient starting near the back. I passed like nine cars in the second stint and was in the top 10 by lap 100, which was the goal. Our crew was outstanding all day in the pit stops and I was happy to take it all the way to the checkered flag.”
Bell will race in the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship on Saturday in Detroit, then fly to France that night to test for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
