The 18th annual AYSO 8U Sportsmanship Tournament was held last Saturday at Will Rogers State Historic Park. For the first time, boys and girls participated for the first time. Players received gold medallions. Tournament directors were Kori Elliott and Carrie Soppe. Marc Gordonson and Kambiz Kamdar chaired the referee table.
Ten boys teams and 12 girls teams participated in the round robin. Sportsmanship trophies were awarded to Coach Matt Cwiertnia’s Green Falcons, consisting of Maxwell Cwiertnia, George Heidt, Frederick Lee, Caden Malleck, Andrew Patience, Nicholas Racanelli, Carter Reierson, and Rowan Seimo; and Coach Corinne Briers’ Blue Soccer Stars, consisting of Miya Bianchi, Ada Grace Cannon, Abigail Carson, Tallulah Godsey, Lucy Landrum, Roma Medaglia, Liv Spanicciati and Sutton Stewart.
For the boys, Coach Tony Morici’s Earthquakes won Pool A; Coach Camilo Ruan’s Purple Goblins won Pool B. For the girls, Coach Lukas Mehring’s Purple Tigers won Pool A; Matt Going’s Cherry Blossoms won Pool B and Lauren Colahan’s Blue Dolphins won Pool C.
