TALIA KOCH
A member of the rowing team at California Yacht Club in Marina del Rey under coach Craig Leeds, Talia competed in the 2019 Head of the Charles in Boston on Oct. 20. She and her partner, Harvard-Westlake schoolmate Alexandria Lange, medaled in the Women’s Youth Doubles race, placing third out of 46 boats—the only California boat to finish in the top 14 in that event. The Head of the Charles consisted of 10,482 competitors from 24 countries. Born and raised in the Palisair area, Talia came late to rowing, getting into a boat for the first time 16 months ago. For eight years prior she was a competitive Irish dancer on a world-ranked team. She happened upon rowing accidentally by conditioning for dance using an indoor rowing machine and realized she was fast. Now 17, Talia holds a 4.6 GPA and has committed to Columbia University’s rowing team. To nominate your favorite Palisadian for Athlete of the Week, email sports@palipost.com.
