A freshman distance runner on the UC Berkeley men’s track team, Charlie clocked 9:37.87 to take the top spot in his section of the 3000-meter Steeplechase last Friday in the San Francisco State Distance Carnival at Chabot College, almost 12 seconds ahead of second-place Ben Harper, his Golden Bears teammate, and 38th overall out of 82 runners in five sections. Sherman, who grew up in the Riviera and went to Canyon Elementary, led Loyola High to the state cross country title as a junior and won the Palisades Will Rogers 5K in 2016.
